Welcome
A very warm welcome to the Wester Hailes Allotment Association website. The website is intended mainly for members of the Association, but we hope that all visitors will find something of interest. We are an independent association. We operate on two sites in the south west of Edinburgh. Please see the "About Us" page to learn more about us and to see where we are located.
A Warning - but a friendly one!
Summer! Ah! Harvesting the fruits of our labours. What joy. But........we also need to be on our guard for signs of one of the worst diseases that can affect our crops. What is it? Potato blight. We provide some timely advice (courtesy of the Potato Council) in our Hints and Tips page.
See Some videos on composting
It's part of the allotment culture that we try to make use of things other people might regard as rubbish. If you do not already do so, why not turn your organic waste material into valuable compost which will not only improve the structure of your soil but it will also enrich it giving your plants many of the nutrients they need to produce great crops. Waste Aware Scotland have produced a series of short videos on making compost and they have kindly agreed that we may make it available through the WHAA website. To view the videos please click the button. ![]()
Happy viewing and happy composing.
Publications
The Association's Handbook for new members is now available. It will, we are sure, be an invaluable source of information and guidance not only for new members but also for those who have been around for a while.
We acknowledge with thanks the material for the Handbook which came from a number of other allotment associations.
